Bank of Slovenia authorisations

The Foreign Exchange Act (in Slovene) regulates the provision of exchange operations and the issue, withdrawal and termination of the authorisation to provide exchange operations granted to a currency exchange operator by the Bank of Slovenia. The aforementioned law sets out the basic conditions for granting the authorisation, which relate to the suitability of the currency exchange operator’s qualified owner and responsible person, the adequacy of the business premises and information technology, and the qualifications of the staff who intend to provide exchange operations.

Together with the procedures and documentation in connection with the authorisation to provide exchange operations, these conditions are set out in detail by the Decision on the provision of exchange operations (in Slovene). The fees for deciding on requests for the granting of the authorisation are set out by the Decision on the tariff of fees for Bank of Slovenia services.

As part of the procedure for deciding on the granting of an authorisation to provide exchange operations, the Bank of Slovenia checks the fulfilment of the conditions set out in the Foreign Exchange Act and the Decision on the provision of exchange operations (in Slovene), and may carry out on-site inspections. If the Bank of Slovenia finds that these conditions are not met, it rejects the request for an authorisation.
