Reproduction rules

Euro banknotes

The rules contribute to the integrity of euro banknotes, and reassure cash handlers that genuine banknotes can be reliably and easily distinguished from reproductions.

If reproductions in advertising or printed illustrations cannot be mistaken for genuine banknotes, they may be used without the prior authorisation of the ECB.

For more, see the documents on the ECB website.

Euro coins

Metallic objects bearing the words “euro” or “euro cent”, and bearing a design similar to that of euro coins could be mistaken for legal tender coins by cash handlers.

Only medals and tokens that cannot be mistaken for genuine euro coins may be produced.

For more, see the documents on the ECB website.
