Background

Social Responsibility

We strive to be a socially responsible, sustainability-focused organisation, whose activities contribute to the three fundamental aspects of sustainability: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection.

We are aware of the increase in climate risks, and the importance of collective action, and we therefore take an active role in working groups at the relevant international institutions. Our commitment is to work towards the goals of the Paris Agreement for the coming years, within the framework of our mandate. Our own carbon footprint has also been increasingly in focus.

We make donations to support activities that make a significant contribution to realising our objectives and mandate. Within this framework we also support education, science and research activities that contribute to the spread of knowledge in the profession, particularly concerning issues related to our work and objectives.

We uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct. We set out rules of ethical conduct for our employees to ensure the highest levels of independence, objectivity, honesty and transparency in their conduct. Upholding these rules is an essential prerequisite for building and maintaining the public’s trust in the sound governance of Banka Slovenije in carrying out its duties.

We have signed the ESCB & SSM equality, diversity, and inclusion charter. This committed us as an institution to promoting a work environment based on respect and dignity, and to ensuring that workplaces are free from any form of discrimination.

We are aware that employees play a vital part in the success of the whole organisation, and we therefore offer them a professional, stable and healthy working environment. We set great store on education and training. For several consecutive years now, we have been ranked number one in the banking sector in the Respected Employer survey. And we are also the proud holders of a Family Friendly Enterprise certificate. Our employees are also highly active in volunteer work, where we mainly work on campaigns with Slovenska Filantropija.

Recent years have seen a marked increase in our work on financial literacy. We take a variety of approaches to presenting to children and young people topics that are important to understanding the financial environment in which they are growing up, and to teaching them a responsible attitude towards money and savings. We are well aware that financial literacy is one of the central bank’s key tasks.

Our prizes for the best master’s and doctoral theses represent a commitment on our part to supporting and encouraging innovation and research in the fields of banking, insurance, finance and financial law. We award them to researchers who show excellence in their work, and who make an outstanding contribution to economic theory and practice that shifts the frontiers of knowledge and helps drive economic development.

We have decided to rekindle a long-standing tradition, and return the premises of the Banka Slovenije’s exhibition room Mala Galerija to their original purpose. In collaboration with the University of Ljubljana we have opened the door to young artists and creatives from various departments and schools.
