Money Week at Banka Slovenije
In March each year, financial institutions mark Global Money Week. This year the week will be marked from 18 to 24 March 2024 under the aegis of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the topic of Protect your money, secure your future. Banka Slovenije is participating for the fourth year running with a range of programmes for all age groups. Expanding financial education and improving financial literacy are indeed part of our key efforts.
As part of Global Money Week, on Monday, 18 March 2024 we will take part in a conference for teaching and professional staff in the education sector. At that event, various institutions that design financial education programmes will present the importance of financial literacy and their work in this field.
As in previous years, we will also offer school students the option of taking short education sessions remotely. On Thursday, 21 March 2024, there will be a banking lesson from 10.00 to 10.45 for pupils of the third triad of primary school, where they will get to know the work of Banka Slovenije and find out more about cash, while on Friday, 22 March 2024, from 11.00 to 12.30 we will be conducting a banking double lesson for secondary school pupils, where topics will include a closer look at the work and key tasks of the central bank and a focus on the latest trends in payments. Both events will take place via the online platform Teams, and are open to registration from entire classes and also individual students and teachers up until Tuesday, 19 March 2024 (for the bank lesson for primary schools), or until Wednesday, 20 March 2024 (for the bank lesson for secondary schools) at the email address [email protected]. Those registered for the event will receive detailed information on participation by email.
During the week our social networks will offer the chance to participate every day in the prize quiz, which this year will be associated with numismatics and sport, and at the end of the week we will publish the name of the prize winner.
The Banka Slovenije Museum is intended to a great extent for boosting the financial literacy of all age and interest groups, so the museum will also be designing some specific content for Global Money Week. On Tuesday, 19 March 2024, and on Thursday, 21 March 2024, organised school groups of the first and second triads of primary school will be offered workshops at 10 and 11 am, and adults will be able to join our guided tour of the museum on both days at 1 and 5 pm, while at 4 pm we will host the virtual game Atlas's Secret, which is intended mainly for secondary school pupils and adults. Registration for the workshops, tours and virtual games is required at [email protected] by Friday, 15 March 2024. Banka Slovenije Museum tours are free on all dates, and you can find more information about them on our website.
For the fourth year running we will publish on our website the wide-reaching and well-received art competition for kindergarten and primary pupils. This year children will create a piece of art on the theme Quarter century of the euro, which will help us mark the anniversary of when the euro started being used in the first Member States of the euro area. We will invite young artists to come up with original greetings for countries, citizens and the euro on this major anniversary. The artwork can be created in any technique and any format. The wording of the competition and all relevant details will be published on our website during Global Money Week. Registration for the competition is open to individuals or groups and their mentors up to the end of April 2024. We will accept art pieces up to the end of the school year, with the winners being published in the autumn and also being invited to a special award presentation.
In recent years Banka Slovenije has put major effort into boosting financial literacy programmes, since we realise that this is one of the key areas for the success of individuals and society. We invite anyone interested to join us for the various education programmes provided by Banka Slovenije throughout the year. Principally for groups of young people, we organise free education days throughout the year, where they can learn about the work of the central bank and find out more about technical areas such as cash, payments, inflation and price stability, monetary policy, bank supervision, rescuing banks in difficulties and the central credit register. We organise these education sessions for different levels of complexity, and also adapt the content to visitors’ wishes. We invite you to register groups for our in-person or remote education day. You can find the registration form and other information on our website.
You are kindly invited to join us on any of our education programmes, to visit the Banka Slovenije Museum or take part in our activities and events that will take place during Global Money Week.
