Online course about euro banknotes and coins

Do you know how to recognise genuine euro banknotes and coins? Are you interested is knowing when euro cash is still fit for use, and when it needs to be withdrawn from circulation?

Banka Slovenije has created a course for learning how to check the authenticity and fitness of euro cash, aimed at all those whose work brings them into contact with cash (staff at banks, savings banks, currency exchange operators, post offices, public institutions and shops), and others who may not work directly with cash but who use it as a consumer, or who are simply interested in learning more.

The interactive course has been created in line with the ECB guidelines, and includes:

  • informative videos, where the key features and properties of cash are presented in a clear and understandable way,

  • questions and interactive exercises to test your knowledge as you learn,

  • photographs and real life examples to help you identify the security features that make it easier to tell genuine cash from counterfeits.

By the end of course you will be able to:

  • find and check the security features on euro banknotes and coins,

  • determine whether cash is fit for further circulation, and

  • take the right action in the case of damaged or suspect cash.

There are two ways to take the course

  1. ONLINE COURSE WITH REGISTRATION
    Allows you to monitor your progress, and ends with a written test. After passing the test you will receive a certificate attesting to your knowledge of how to check the authenticity and fitness of euro cash.

  1. ONLINE COURSE WITHOUT REGISTRATION
    Allows access alone to the interactive course, without a test of knowledge and certification.

The course solely covers matters relating to euro cash, and does not cover matters relating to foreign currencies, which are the preserve of foreign central banks.

Banka Slovenije will endeavour to regularly update the course, adding engaging new content, and we therefore recommend that you regularly refresh your own knowledge (at least every five years). In the event of the introduction of a new series of euro banknotes, your knowledge will need to be updated when the new series or banknote is released.
