On 7 April 2026 Banka Slovenije published a tender for designing drafts of occasional coins to be issued in 2027. Tender was published on the Banka Slovenije's web page. By the end of the tender on 18 May 2026 we received 29 drafts for a commemorative coin to mark 100th anniversary of the birth of illustrator Ančka Gošnik Godec and 21 drafts for collector coins to mark the 80th anniversary of Primorska rejoining its homeland.
The Commission for issuing occasional coins, established by the Banka Slovenije and the Ministry of finance of the Republic of Slovenia, decided to award the following drafts for designing a commemorative coin to mark 100th anniversary of illustrator Ančka Gošnik Godec:
prize (€4,000) for draft with code MCXAGG7 – authors: Daniela Vidmar Podboj and Tomaž Podboj;
prize (€2,000) for draft with code N087y?F – author: Jernej Kejžar;
prize (€1,300) for draft with code 7650 – author: Adrijana Šmigoc.
Draft with code MCXAGG7 depicts Muca Copatarica, a distinctly positive character that reflects the relaxed nature of the main figure in the illustrator’s body of work. Draft combines the childlike playfulness and mature ease of the character that Ančka Gošnik Godec has indelibly imprinted on our visual memory. The composition is clean and well-balanced; the text is right-aligned, emphasizing the strength of this friendly yet fragile figure.
Based on the decision the the Commission for issuing occasional coins the following drafts for collector coins to mark the 80th anniversary of Primorska rejoining its homeland:
prize (€4,000) for draft with code B3S3D3 – author: Elvis Jerkič;
prize (€2,000) for draft with code g24w25 – author: Jernej Kejžar;
prize (€1,300) for draft with code 2265 – author: DAK d.o.o.
In draft with code B3S3D3 features selected slogans that accompanied the people of Primorska during the period of the border-demarcation commissions. On the obverse side, the letters are scattered and disconnected. On the reverse side, however, they come together to form slogans, among which the inscription "PRIMORSKA REJOINING ITS HOMELAND" stands out. These resonant messages remain vividly present in the collective memory of the people of Primorska. Typography – letters and words – serves as the sole visual element, ingeniously creating a dynamic and condensed composition with the outline of Slovenia’s western border.
Occasional coins are suggested to be minted based on the drafts awarded with first prize. The Government of Slovenia will make the final approval of the drafts based on which occasional coins will be minted.
