Come and celebrate family week and International Museum Day at the Banka Slovenije museum

April 20, 2026

The second half of May will see the Banka Slovenije museum marking both family week and International Museum Day, while also celebrating its fifth birthday. You are cordially invited to join us at the museum on Monday, 18 May and Thursday, 21 May. No booking is necessary, and entrance is free of charge.

Monday, 18 May is International Museum Day and also the museum’s fifth birthday, and you are welcome to join us any time between 1 pm and 7 pm. At 1 pm we are running a guided tour for adults, which is being organised as part of the International Museum Day celebrations under the slogan Museums Uniting a Divided World. This will be followed at 5 pm by a museum tour for families with children. This makes us part of the Families for Free campaign organised by the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth, where this year’s central theme is Families, inequality and children’s wellbeing. With the Banka Slovenije museum celebrating its fifth birthday on 18 May, anyone who visits us on that day will receive a special gift, while a sweet and delicious surprise awaits the first 30 guests. There is no need to book in advance, and entrance is free of charge.

Just as on every third Thursday of the month, the museum will be open on Thursday, 21 May. You are invited to join us for a guided tour at 1 pm or 5 pm, or simply to view the museum under your own steam. There is no need to book, and entrance is free of charge. On the same day, starting at 4 pm, you can play the interactive team game Atlas’s Secret with your family or friends (available in Slovene only). For the sake of easier organisation, we ask that you make a booking for Atlas’s Secret by emailing [email protected] by 15 April, as we need at least 5 people to play. It is free of charge.

If you decide to take a stroll around the city centre at any time during family week, i.e. between 15 and 22 May, we are inviting you to try our Hunt for Lost Money digital game. The game takes place outside, in the immediate surroundings of Banka Slovenije. You start the game by using the QR code displayed on one of the windows in front of the museum entrance on Cankarjeva ulica (the passage between Cankarjeva and Tomšičeva, behind the Nama department store), or via an online link, which will be published on our social media. You need a mobile phone and about half an hour to play. During the game you get to move between specific points in the city with a link to the tolar, Slovenia’s first and only independent currency. The game is suitable for individuals and families with children, and is available in Slovene only. Anyone successfully completing the game can report to the museum on any third Thursday, when our doors are open from 1 pm to 6 pm, to receive a prize.

You are cordially invited to come and celebrate with us!
