Meeting of the Governing Board of the Bank of Slovenia of 14 December 2010

12/14/2010 / Press release

• The Governing Board of the Bank of Slovenia discussed the Stability of the Slovenian Banking System report of December 2010, and approved its publication on the Bank of Slovenia website (in the coming days).
• The Governing Board also adopted the following regulations:
o the Regulation on the Reporting of Data for the Purpose of Financial Accounts Statistics
o the Regulation on the Authenticity and Fitness Checking and Recirculation of Euro Banknotes
• As the end of 2010 is drawing near, the Governing Board also drew up the following clarification for the purpose of informing the public:

On the basis of recent amendments to the Banking Act (the ZBan-1E), as of 1 January 2011 the coverage of guaranteed deposits will be limited up to 100.000 EUR per depositor for his guaranteed deposits at an individual bank or savings bank.

The maximum coverage of EUR 100,000 per depositor follows a European directive aimed at ensuring an equal level of protection for depositors in all EU Member States after the end of 2010.

This will replace the current unlimited coverage for deposits at banks and savings banks, which, as in certain other EU Member States, was introduced in November 2008 and will cease to be valid at the end of this year.

A guaranteed deposit of an individual depositor (a private individual, a private individual independently engaged in business activities, a sole trader or a legal entity that does not satisfy the criteria for being classed as a large or medium-sized enterprise) at a bank or savings bank is the net deposit as at the day that bankruptcy proceedings are initiated against the bank or savings bank up to a total of EUR 100,000. The net deposit is the sum or total balance of all the deposits of an individual depositor, minus any unpaid and overdue liabilities to the bank or savings bank.

More information about the guarantee can be obtained on the Bank of Slovenia website (http://www.bsi.si/en/guarantee-scheme.asp?MapaId=1047). Information is also available at banks, at savings banks and on the website of the Bank Association of Slovenia (http://www.zbs-giz.si/).
