How do you know that your money is secure?
What is Atlas’s Secret?
If these questions pique your interest, you should visit the Banka Slovenije Museum. We welcome people of all ages who would like to know how the central bank works, how it is connected to the Eurosystem, and how its decisions impact the lives of individuals. All of these concepts are explained with audiovisual and interactive content, educational games, and traditional museum exhibits.
At the museum, you can learn about the key milestones of Slovenia as a state, at which also Banka Slovenije played a major role. There is a particular focus on the tolar as Slovenia’s national currency. All the banknotes and coins that we have used since the independence of Slovenia are on display. We also illustrate the functioning of the Eurosystem, and our role in it. The key components of our work are presented in a practical way: price stability, supervision of the banking system, and regard for the banks in difficulties.
The star attraction of the museum is surely the gold bar, which you can pick up and guess its weight. You can check how many gold bars you weigh in gold, or take the electric quiz. You can also try to manage inflation or measure your height in cents and photograph yourself with two million euros.
Atlas’s Secret
Another attraction of the Banka Slovenije Museum is a virtual game named Atlas’s Secret. By using tablets and tackling different challenges connected to central banking, you will enjoy a unique museum experience containing elements of escape room.
Visitors are divided into groups, which must pass the seven tests of Atlas. These include knowing basic financial terms, discovering the central bank’s key tasks, and investigating certain museum exhibits. The aim of the game is to crack the code that unlocks the vault hiding the Atlas’s secret.
Atlas’s Secret is suitable for adults, secondary school and university students, and for students in the last three grades of primary school when accompanied by parents. The minimum number of players is four, but for a better experience five to twenty-five players are recommended. During the game, the curator of the museum is available for any assistance needed.
Are you ready to discover Atlas’s secret?
It is possible to apply for the game every third Thursday of the month at 4 pm. It is free of charge, but it is necessary to register in advance. For private groups, visits can be arranged outside the scheduled period.
Family museum tour
The museum tour features active exploration of the museum, and is tailored to families with children. During the tour you will become explorers and you will learn about our museum exhibits through games and fun tasks.
