In the last few years, new technologies have greatly accelerated the development of existing payment solutions and stimulated the appearance of new forms of financial instrument, from tokenised central bank money and deposits to private cryptoassets, including stablecoins. As with any innovation, stablecoins bring to the market a range of new risks, as well as promising opportunities, and open up important questions around financial stability, consumer protection and market integrity. Effectively addressing these questions will require active engagement from lawmakers, regulators, market participants and other key stakeholders.
With the aim of approaching these questions from multiple perspectives, Banka Slovenije is organising an event titled Stablecoins and Their Impact on Financial Stability. The event will take place on Thursday 26 February from 10 am to 12 pm in the Great Hall of Banka Slovenije.
The opening address will be given by Primož Dolenc, Governor of Banka Slovenije. This will be followed by an introductory presentation by Domen Božeglav, a Banka Slovenije expert in payment systems, who will outline the key characteristics of stablecoins. A round table discussion chaired by Marko Pahor, Vice Governor of Banka Slovenije, will follow. The panel will include:
Nikolina Prah, State Secretary at the Slovenian Ministry of Finance
Stanislava Zadravec Caprirolo, Director of the Bank Association of Slovenia
Primož Pinoza, Assistant Director at the Securities Market Agency
Vasja Rant, Professor at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana
Anja Blaj Zajc, President of Blockchain Think Tank Slovenia.
Experts from various fields will participate in the roundtable discussion, addressing stablecoins and their implications for users, financial institutions and businesses, as well as regulatory frameworks, security considerations and potential use cases. This way they will sheed a light on the key aspects of this fast-developing fintech environment.
The event, held in Slovenian, will take place in the Great Hall of Banka Slovenije and will also be available via live video broadcast. Participation is free of charge, and registration via the online form below is open until Monday, 23 February 2026.
