Banka Slovenije and the Bled Strategic Forum are organizing a panel discussion titled Shaping Europe's Economic Resilience: Strategic Responses, Integration of Payment Systems, and the Digital Euro.
Amid shifting geopolitics and rising global uncertainties, Europe stands at an economic and strategic crossroads. Fragmented payment systems, reliance on non-European providers for digital payments and rise of foreign digital currencies have exposed structural vulnerabilities, undermining financial stability. The digital euro, under European governance, represents more than monetary innovation; it is a geopolitical and economic imperative, offering a secure and unified European payment framework, which would act as competitive response to emerging challenges and reinforce Europe's stance on the global stage.
The panel will open with a keynote speech by Madis Müller, Governor of the Estonian central bank, Eesti Pank.
The roundtable discussion will be moderated by Jana Randow (Bloomberg), and will feature the following participants:
Primož Dolenc, Acting Governor of Banka Slovenije,
Ludovic Francesconi, The European Payments Initiative,
Irena Radović, Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro and
Agustín Reyna, The European Consumer Organisation.
The panel will explore strategic responses to current economic challenges, the integration of payment systems, and the role of the digital euro in enhancing Europe’s economic resilience.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, from 12:00 to 13:15, in Bled, as part of the Bled Strategic Forum.
