At Banka Slovenije we see our mission as being not just about helping to create a stable economic environment, but also more broadly as being part of a commitment to strengthening the prosperity of this and future generations. We are thus increasingly prioritising young people, their education, and their scope for expression in today’s environment. Art, whether music, fine art or any other kind, is one of the tools by which their message can reach people. Banka Slovenije’s Mala Galerija thus throws its doors open to young visual artists, but we also pursue our mission in the realm of music.
Through the purchase in 2013 of a superlative violin made in 1850 by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, Banka Slovenije set in motion the project of lending this wonderful instrument to young musical talents. Since first being acquired, the violin has been used by the famous Slovenian violinist Tanja Sonc, who has appeared on countless stages across the globe, and has won a number of prestigious awards.
Last year we made the decision to continue supporting young musicians and to expand our collection of musical instruments by purchasing another Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin, this one made between 1840 and 1845 and modelled on Guarneri del Gesù. As part of our work liaising with other institutions, we created a project in collaboration with the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana, whereby its students are able to use the violin over the long term. Performing on a top-quality instrument allows talented young musicians to compete at the highest level at home and abroad, and thus to play a part in promoting Slovenia’s cultural wealth and diversity.
We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a gala concert marking the official handover of Banka Slovenije’s new violin to the Academy of Music and its students, which will be held in the week leading up to Prešeren Day, the Slovene Cultural Holiday. The concert will take place on Sunday, 1 February 2026, at 8 pm in the Julij Betetto Hall (at the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana, at Kongresni trg 1 in Ljubljana). The evening will feature both Banka Slovenije violins: the first will be played by Tanja Sonc, and the second will be played by Rok Zaletel Černoš, a student at the Academy of Music.
Before the one-hour concert begins, guests will hear speeches by Primož Dolenc, Acting Governor of Banka Slovenije, and Karolina Šantl Zupan, dean of the Academy of Music.
We cordially invite you to join us for this grand occasion.
