To mark Week of the Child this year, we are inviting you to join us at the Banka Slovenije Museum for a special workshop at 4.30 pm on Monday, 5 October: together we will take a journey from the tolar, the first currency used in independent Slovenia, to the euro. This year marks 35 years since the introduction of the tolar, and 20 years since Slovenia joined the euro. Children will also be able to enter their own creations in this year’s Banka Slovenije art competition, should they wish.
The workshop is aimed at children aged 6 to 12.
The gathering at the museum will open with a group welcome, during which we will get to feel the weight of a gold bar, and sit on a chair made of two million euros. Next we will turn our focus to the tolar – examining some tolar banknotes and coins, and learning many interesting facts about them – before moving on to the euro, learning about the countries of the euro area and euro banknotes, and testing our knowledge of the national sides of euro coins. Later your child will be able to create their own tolar/euro banknote, with a focus on Slovenian and European symbols and the banknote security elements.
Entrance is free-of-charge, but for the sake of easier organisation and given the limited number of places it is best to book in advance via the form below by 2 October. After you have made your booking, we will send you further information and instructions.
Week of the Child or Teden otroka® is a programme run by the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth since 1954. This year it runs from 5 to 11 October, under the slogan Good morning, good day, may it be with you all the way.
