06/11/2012 / Press release

A workshop organised by the Bank of Slovenia together with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank was held in Ljubljana on Monday, 11 June 2012. The presentations and discussions included a focus on topics linked to the issue of high non-performing loans in various countries in Central, Eastern and South-eastern Europe. The IMF and World Bank representatives stressed that excessive delays in tackling the issue of non-performing loans could hold back economic performance and slow down its recovery and growth. The main part of the workshop was devoted to various obstacles in the business environment, which make effective non-performing loan resolution difficult, and to a proactive, cooperative approach to deal with the problem of non-performing loans.
