03/20/2023 / Press release

This year once again, Banka Slovenije organised the Generation €uro competition for upper secondary school students. Ten teams from six different schools took part and the winners of the twelfth edition of the competition - students from II. Gimnazija Maribor, who joined forces in the 1nfl4t0rčk1 team led by Lidija Kodrin - earned a prize and attended a ceremony at Banka Slovenije. They were also invited to the closing ceremony with the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde.

The Generation €uro competition is held for school students every year by the ECB together with the national central banks of the euro area. It is intended to encourage young people to learn more about monetary policy and the work of the ECB and the Eurosystem. At Banka Slovenije we are well aware of the importance of financial literacy, and it is the twelfth consecutive year that we have held this competition.

The competition is held over three rounds, beginning in mid-October, when the entrants tackle a quiz on monetary policy, the ECB and the Eurosystem. A total of 10 teams took part in this round of the competition in Slovenia. In the second round the competitors had to submit a written assignment on the subject Forecasting the interest rate to be announced by the ECB in March. In third and final round the six teams that performed best in the second round gave a presentation and answered questions before Banka Slovenije’s four-person jury chaired by Vice-Governor Primož Dolenc.

The other teams that made it through to the final round were Davkoplačevalci (Taxpayers) and Kranjski bančniki (Kranj Bankers), both from Gimnazija Franceta Prešerna Kranj, mentored by Irena Podpečan, Podjetniki (Enterpreneurs) and Kapitalisti (Capitalists) both from Ekonomska šola Celje under the mentorship of Katja Fras Budna and Katja Teršek, and Calculated Victory from II. Gimnazija Maribor, with their mentor Lidija Kodrin. All of them received a certificate for their participation and a gift.
