Banka Slovenije concluded its 30th anniversary celebrations with the Music of Slovenian Composers

06/01/2022 / Press release

At Banka Slovenije we see our mission as being not just about helping create a stable economic environment, but also, within a broader social context, about promoting the preservation and development of cultural heritage. For this reason we are prioritising young people, in terms of their education as well as their opportunities for expression in today’s world. Banka Slovenije thus concluded its 30th anniversary celebrations with the Music of Slovenian Composers concert held on 1 July at the Slovenian Philharmonic. At this concert the violinist Tanja Sonc performed various pieces by Slovenian composers together with a team of young Slovenian musicians.

Placed at the centre of the concert was a violin made in 1850 by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume, which Banka Slovenije owns and rents out to the violinist Tanja Sonc as part of its programme through which it promotes young artists. Sonc is a member of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, and a recipient of numerous awards at national and international competitions. Appearing at the concert along Sonc was Matjaž Bogataj (violin), Gea Pentner Volfand (viola), Maruša Turjak Bogataj (cello), Marie Sophie Hauzel (piano) and Aljaž Cvirn (guitar).

These musicians performed pieces by Lucijan Marija Škerjanc, Alojz Srebotnjak, Marijan Lipovšek, Nenad Firšt, Hugo Wolf, Slavko Osterc and Matija Krečič live at the Slovenian Philharmonic. The works selected pay tribute to important Slovenian composers and musicians, who, alongside numerous other artists, form one of the strongest pillars of Slovenian identity.

As part of the Music of Slovenian Composers project sponsored by Banka Slovenije, a CD has also been released featuring the same works, which you can also listen to on all popular digital music platforms.
