The centre of the obverse of the coin depicts a proteus, with the Latin name "Proteus anguinus" written below it, and the nominal value, expressed in numbers, above it.

The reverse bears an embossed square surface with the number "10" impressed into it, the legend "REPUBLIKA SLOVENIJA" running to the left, and the denomination in words reading "DESET STOTINOV" and the year of coinage to the right.
